The following information is provided as a guide only. Security measures, costs and dates may change at any time. Please view this page regularly to be up to date with the latest information on Airside access at Archerfield Airport.

The Civil Aviation Regulations 1998 Manual of Standards (Chapter 10.9) and the Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations 1997 (Part 4) impose responsibilities on Archerfield Airport Corporation (AAC) to implement control over the movement of persons and vehicles entering and operating Airside.

To improve safety, protect person and property, improve the life of airport infrastructure and reduce the risks associated with drivers who are unfamiliar with the airside environment and/or aircraft operations, any vehicle accessing airside areas of Archerfield Airport requires the driver to hold a valid Authority to Use Airside (AUA) for the vehicle and a valid Airside Driving Authority (ADA) OR to be escorted by a driver who does hold a valid AUA and ADA and who has escort rights.

TO APPLY FOR VEHICLE ESCORT

To book a vehicle escort, please download the application form via the link below and submit it to email address This email address is being protected from spambots. Please note:

  • Approval of vehicle escort is at the discretion of Archerfield Airport Corporation;
  • 24 hours’ notice (given during business hours Monday to Friday) is required;
  • Fees apply and
  • Payment is by credit card only.

TO APPLY FOR ADA/AUA

Please complete the following steps:

1Obtain a copy of the Airside Vehicle Control Handbook

2Obtain the relevant application forms

(Copies of the above can be obtained from the AAC)*

3Submit the completed application forms along with appropriate documentation

  • Email, hand-deliver or post to AAC*  (Faxed application forms will not be accepted)
  • Applications will be assessed on a fortnightly basis. Every endeavour will be made to process applications within 14 working days from submission, however delays may be expected during peak times or if insufficient information has been provided. A member of staff will contact the applicant to convey the decision or ask for further details where required.

4If approved, sit the drivers Airside access exam for the ADA

  • Approved applicants will be invited to sit a multiple choice exam based on the current Airside Vehicle Control Handbook. A 75% pass mark will be required.

5If successful, purchase and collect the relevant authorities

  • For ADAs, a photo of the applicant will be taken after the exam. The applicant will then be handed a licence which must be carried at all times whilst driving Airside. ($30 ex GST valid for the financial year or part thereof)
  • For AUAs, the applicant will collect a sticker which must be displayed on the drivers side of the windscreen at all times whilst driving Airside. ($30 ex GST valid for the financial year or part thereof)

A person approved for an ADA will not necessarily have their AUA approved and vice versa. Applicants are advised to submit both ADA and AUA applications together.

For those with existing authorities that require changes, an administration fee of $10 (ex GST) per authorisation will apply. For changes of vehicles, a new AUA application form and Certificate of Currency for that vehicle must be submitted to the AAC prior to driving the new vehicle Airside. The old AUA sticker must also be surrendered to AAC.

To overcome difficulties with reissuing authorities year round, the expiry of all ADAs and AUAs occurs at the end of each financial year. Consequently, renewals are effective from the beginning of each financial year.

Authorities remain valid for the period of 12 months. However, where an ADA or AUA is purchased part-way through a financial year, it will expire in June of that financial year. In this instance, the usual set fee will be charged.

Your clothing can be very important in protecting you from everyday hazards in your workplace, so always make sure you wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times when working at the airport. PPE includes boots, face masks, hard hats, ear plugs, respirators, gloves, safety harnesses and high visibility clothing.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to stay safe airside is to be seen. Please remember that it is an operational requirement working airside to wear a reflective vest or high visibility clothing so other people, pilots and drivers can see you. ‘Hi viz’ clothing is also mandatory when working in the manoeuvring area.
