The following information is provided as a guide only. Security measures, costs and dates may change at any time. Please view this page regularly to be up to date with the latest information on Airside access at Archerfield Airport.

Under the Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations 1997, Archerfield Airport Corporation (AAC) has responsibilities for and control over persons and vehicles entering and operating on Archerfield Airport. The corporation has the authority to deny/allow access to and issue fines/directions on matters concerning safety and security on the Airport. By law, all persons driving airside must carry an ADA and all vehicles must display an AUA at all times.

To overcome difficulties with reissuing authorities year round, the expiry of all ADAs and AUAs will now occur at the end of each financial year. Subsequently, their renewals will now occur at the beginning of each financial year.

Authorities will still remain valid for the period of 12 months. However, where an ADA or AUA is purchased part-way through a financial year, it will now expire in June of that financial year. In this instance, the set fee will be charged as per usual.

To apply for the authority to drive Airside

Please complete the following steps:

1Obtain a copy of the Airside Vehicle Control Handbook

  • Download a copy  (zipped - approx. 1.5Mb)  or,
  • Purchase a full-colour booklet from the AAC  ($7 ex GST)*

2Obtain the relevant application forms

(Copies of the above can be obtained from the AAC)*

3Submit the completed application forms along with appropriate documentation

  • Hand-deliver or post to the AAC*  (Faxed application forms will not be accepted)
  • Applications will be assessed on a weekly basis. Every endeavour will be made to process applications within 10 working days from submission, however delays may be expected during peak times or if insufficient information has been provided. A member of staff will contact the applicant to convey the decision or ask for further details where required.

4If approved, sit the drivers Airside access exam for the ADA

  • Approved applicants will be invited to sit a multiple choice exam based on the current Airside Vehicle Control Handbook. A 75% pass mark will be required.

5If successful, purchase and collect the relevant authorities

  • For ADAs, a photo of the applicant will be taken after the exam. The applicant will then be handed a licence which must be carried at all times whilst driving Airside. ($30 ex GST valid for 12 months or part thereof)
  • For AUAs, the applicant will collect a sticker which must be displayed on the drivers side of the windscreen at all times whilst driving Airside. ($30 ex GST valid for 12 months or part thereof)
A person approved for an ADA will not necessarily have their AUA approved and vice versa.
Applicants are advised to submit both ADA and AUA applications together.

For those with existing authorities that require changes, an administration fee of $10 (ex GST) per authorisation will apply. For changes of vehicles, a new AUA application form and Certificate of Currency for that vehicle must be submitted to the AAC prior to driving the new vehicle Airside. The old AUA sticker must also be surrendered to AAC.
